Drum roll please...Lucy has been taken off the CPAP (her breathing mask), has passed her birth weight by weighing 2 lbs. 4 oz., and will be on continuous feeds tonight!!! If she continues to do well, Lucy may even get to have the IV taken out of her arm since the only medicine she will need is caffeine! We have been so excited with her progress!
These are the details from this past week. Instead of the CPAP, Lucy has a nasal cannula. She has been doing pretty well without the CPAP. She still has episodes where she stops breathing but is learning to fix it by herself. Lucy had one bradycardia today which means she needed a nurse to help her breathe. This is a huge improvement since last week. The nurse told us she had 15 bradycardias during one of the nights last week.
They took Lucy off her feeds a couple of times because she started to throw up. The nurses told us that the reason was probably that air got trapped inside her from the CPAP (breathing mask). We are hoping that she will be able to handle the milk now without any problems.
Lucy also had to be under the bilirubin light for a couple of days since her levels were a little high. She has now been off that for the past four or five days.
Lucy weighed 2 lbs. 2 oz. at three weeks old.
One of the nurses was assigned as Lucy's primary nurse which means that every time the nurse works, she will have Lucy as her baby to take care of. We feel so blessed because she is my favorite nurse we have had so far. She let me touch and talk to Lucy for as long I wanted last week. It was so much fun! She also was the nurse who asked to give Lucy a try off the CPAP and has been finding all these cute hats to put on her. I feel like she sincerely cares about Lucy and has already been very helpful.
We were lucky enough to have a couple visitors in town these past couple of weeks. My mom came out and helped with cleaning, cooking, driving, entertaining, and even made Lucy a blessing dress while she was here! I loved having her here and miss having her around. I wish she could have stayed for another couple of months!

We were also lucky to get a visit from Mark's sister Karen and her family. We went to a favorite mexican restaurant and to the beach with them. We were also constantly entertained by our cute little niece Evia. I wish I had a tape recorder to play back all the cute things she said. Evia was adorable and Karen and Casey were so much fun to be around!
