Our Little Pumpkin

One of the nurses made this hat for Lucy. Isn't it adorable?!
This is the latest in good news: Lucy is 4 lb. 11 oz. She is in an open crib now because she can keep her temperature regulated. She is doing well without caffeine and is breathing better too. Also, Mark and I got a little break for Halloween and used our free Disney passes at Epcot. Besides missing Lucy like crazy, we had a lot of fun.
As for the not so good news: Lucy got another eye infection. Learning how to breathe, suck, and swallow at the same time is pretty tricky. Also, Lucy had her eyes checked again and has some abnormal blood vessels developing. We are still optimistic that her eyes will correct without intervention however.
We love you Lucy! Thanks for trying so hard!

40 Days and 40 Nights

Lucy is just over eight weeks old. Lately, she's been taking some major steps toward coming home along with having some minor set backs. During these past couple of weeks, Lucy moved to the back of the NICU, was taken off caffeine, tried bottle feeding, passed her second eye exam, and was able to try breathing without the nasal cannula a couple of times. However, she also had another blood transfusion, threw up once, and had a couple of fevers. She is currently 4 lb. 5 oz.. We are keeping our fingers crossed that during these next couple of weeks she will learn how to breathe without any help from the nasal cannula, remain off caffeine, get better at bottle feeding, pass her next eye exam, and be able to keep her temperature regulated well enough that she can move to an open crib. We are so proud of how hard she tries each day. About 40 more days to go...it seems more like forever though!
