These past couple of days have been a little more challenging for Lucy. We came into visit her on Thursday night and learned she had been throwing up. The cause has not been found yet. No problems have shown up in the two x-rays they took of her stomach but we are still waiting to hear back on the third x ray done this morning. They have taken Lucy off the feeding tube, have given her more antibiotics, and started pumping out green fluid from her stomach. Lucy also received her second blood transfusion yesterday morning since her hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were low. Even with these challenges, the nurses tell us Lucy is still doing pretty well. They tell us the bradycardias (episodes where she forgets to breathe) are fairly normal for her age and the fact that she is still breathing without a tube is great. Mark and I were able to give her a sponge bath and rub lotion on her for the first time this week. Lucy's last weigh in was 1 1b. 14 oz.. She is two weeks old today.
Oh, I so wish I was there and could give you a hug! These pictures radiate the love you and Mark have for your little Lucy, it is very touching. Hang in there, Bessy!
She is so cute! And so tiny! I really wish I would have done more size markers with Ava. I wish we would have found more objects to take pictures and then save the objects for her later in life. (like a paper clip or safety pin next to the foot, a penny or quarter by the hand, a baby doll or stuffed animal to show the whole length or width.) Things that she can keep and look at later in life to remind her (and you) how small she was. I hope you have a video camera too. I'm also really glad I kept things like one of her preemie bottles, her name tag on the incubator, a diaper, etc. You're probably doing all of this already, but I wish someone would have helped me to think of things since I was too emotional to think that far down the road. :) Also, do they do Kangaroo Care? I hope so. Our hospital didn't. I really believe it makes a huge difference. I have an amazing video to show you. I'll send it to you on facebook.
There's nothin like a little unsolicited advice huh? :)
Oh!!!! And how could I forget! One of our favorite traditions was that every time Ava gained a pound we had a "fat party". Basically you just go out and order the fattiest thing on the menu. It was really fun.
So precious! She is so cute and tiny. I cant even imagine what it is like to hold a baby that small I feel like they are small when they come out full term. but way to go Lucy for hanging in there and being so strong, you guys too! You guys are in our prayers and know if you need anything let us know! Cant wait to meet your little Lucy ;)
Bethany (and Mark), This is Heidi Kinnersley, I just heard from Emily Dowdle about your baby and hopped on over from Katie Jane's blog. I hope that Lucy continues to do well, what a fighter! I Love the photos, such precious moments, even under the cercumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with you! She is so lucky to come to your family. Much love, HEIDI
You probably tire of hearing this...but...She is so tiny! And so cute! What an adorable little blessing. Keep us posted with lots of pictures and stories and let me know if you need anything!
I'm so glad that little Lucy is continuing to grow and get stronger. I cannot imagine having to go through a trial like this, but you guys will only be stronger for it! Good luck to you with the next few months and good luck to little Lucy! I'm glad you are ok too Bethany!
