Lucy turned one on August 28! We took lots and lots of pictures since she only turns 1 once!

When we got home we did the traditional game for one year olds. We let Lucy crawl to three of her new presents in a line to see which one she would choose. Whatever she chose was supposed to symbolize what she will become. We mixed up the toys and let her crawl two different times. Both times she crawled to her doll instead of her toy school clock and toy piano. I guess she really wants to be a mother. I can see why since there are few things that are better than being Lucy's mother to me.
And as for the finale of her birthday...Lucy got to try eating her very own chocolate cupcake.
Lucy also got a bit of a cupcake at her friend Kylie's Elmo party. They both turned one in the same week. Kylie was so nice to share her day with Lucy.

The rest of these are random pictures of Lucy around 12 months of age.

Favorite moments at 12 months:
Lucy was getting into the dishwasher full of dirty dishes and I told her no in my sternest voice. What did she do when I said it over and over again? Laughed hysterically.
I really wanted Lucy to say my name and know what it meant. I practiced hard with her everyday pointing and saying both her name and my name back and forth. She finally crawled to me crying, put both her hands on my knees, looked up at me, and said "ma-ma". It was well worth all the practice.
Lucy learned how to play peek-a-boo with a blanket.
She loves to crawl into the bathroom and unroll all the toilet paper.
Lucy loves to climb over the little step leading into our shower and crawl around. I usually stop her but since I was in the bathroom getting ready that morning, the shower was clean, and there was no water on the floor, I just let her. Next thing I know I hear Lucy choking. I couldn't figure out what she could be choking on until all I could see coming out of her mouth were bubbles and a little blue speck of bar soap. There must have been the very end of the bar soap that had fallen and she ate it. I felt like a terrible mom until I read on the internet about a mom finding her baby eating poop from her diaper. Since Lucy's mouth was extra clean instead of extra gross--I didn't seem so bad. Then I also remembered that my mom used wash our mouths out with soap if we ever said, "shut up". Good times. We lived so I figured Lucy would too. Looking back I actually think it is really funny when I picture Lucy's trying to cry while blowing soap bubbles. It was just like a cartoon.
Then there was the day Lucy wouldn't lay down and take a nap (I should actually say one of the days). She pouted and played for a bit and then it was extra quiet for a while before I heard her playing again. Finally she went to sleep. When I went into get her after her nap, I saw her bare little bottom sticking up in the air and her diaper way off in the corner. I also found little puddles of urine intermittently throughout her sheets. It all came together why she was so quiet.
Things I love:
Lucy bounces her legs when she gets excited
When she is on her stomach, Lucy kicks her right leg up and down. It is just like Thumper on Bambi.
When she bangs on the wall with her hand when she is supposed to be taking a nap.
Lucy does these frantic dancing feet in place when I first stand her up to walk.
I love that Lucy looks like she is marching when she is walking around.

How did you get her to show us that she's one year old? I LOVE the first photos of her eyes...they are such a pretty glistening color of blue. Everything you wrote is going to be a treasure. So many things that you will now never forget that you love about her at this stage! Happy Belated Birthday Thumper!
