Trip to Utah

Over a year had gone by since Mark and I last visited Utah. The opportunity to visit during Mark's two week break in June was well anticipated. We were so excited to see everyone and eat the mexican food we had missed so much! We also looked forward to enjoying summertime in Utah. Unfortunately, we didn't wait long enough because it snowed the day after we gotten there--in June! I was freezing! I guess I am a wimp in the cold now because I was loading on the sweaters and socks while everyone else seemed to be enjoying their sandals and short sleeves. Crazy Utah people. If weather like that happened in Florida, people would be wearing scarves, gloves, and huge down coats.
Since this was the first time flying with Lucy, I was a little nervous to see how it would go. I had to wake her up at 5:00 a.m. and knew she would miss her naps.
The first flight and layover worked out great. As long as she had her toes, Lucy was enjoying life.

The second flight--not so great. Lucy wiggled around for a while and then pooped. Yeah pooped. Twice. If my airport job taught me anything, it was that airplanes are very dirty--especially the bathrooms. You know how the bathroom floor is always sticky? It's not like someone spilled their soda in there. I got up all my courage and got the diaper change over with the first time. While I was feeling pretty good about myself, she pooped again, ten minutes later! I don't know why I felt bad for myself though. I should have felt bad for the people sitting next to us.
Lucy got more restless as time went on. Just when I thought it would never end, we saw mountains. They were more beautiful than I remembered.

Then it got even better...Lucy fell asleep.

We stayed at my parents' while we were there. They were such kind hosts-letting us mess up their house, eat their good food, and they still loved Lucy after she spit up on their carpet--more than once. Sorry about that again mom.

Lucy got her first cold while we were there. Sleeping wasn't working out so well for her (or for me) because of it. It was hard for me to watch her feel miserable. I was so glad that it wasn't a long lasting cold.

We had so much fun introducing Lucy to her relatives. Among the relatives were Lucy's Grandma and Grandpa Baker...

her Aunt Karen and cousin Evia...

her Uncle Cory...

her Uncle Darin...

and her cousin Rhett.

Rhett was especially fun to see because none of us had met him yet. We loved him and thought Rhett and Lucy were so cute together!

We also couldn't wait to meet Darin's fiancee, Cathy. We are thrilled that she joined our family! We are so happy for them!

Memorial Day weekend occurred during the trip so we headed to the cemetery.

Lucy got to play with her cousins Abby, Hallie, and Josh while there.

The grass was intriguing to Lucy. We couldn't get her to look up for some of the pictures because she couldn't keep her eyes and fingers off the ground. I can see why. Utah grass is so smooth and soft--not stiff and scratchy like it is here.

To celebrate memorial day, we went swimming with the Caldwell side. Lucy enjoyed lounging around in her big chair....

...and of course sucking those toes of hers.

Here she is with her baby cousin Tommy. I love that chub!

We also spent an afternoon at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum. It was weird that I had never been there before. They had some great things like the wagon that Brigham Young was in when he rode into the Salt Lake Valley for the first time.

I think Lucy was probably a little bored stopping every couple of feet in her stroller...

..until we got to go outside and play with her cousins again.

We saw some great things while in the museum, but nothing tops what Mollie found.
She found a...ROCK! :)

Mark was excited for weeks about our upcoming trip to Utah because he was going camping in Southern Utah with his brother Wayne and nephew Conrad! They ended up camping in Capitol Reef National Park. Mark had a great time.

Mark has taken quite the interest in space lately. One of the biggest highlights of the trip for him was being able to see the stars so clearly. I can see why--they do look beautiful.

We got to celebrate my brother in law Cory's birthday while we were there. After dinner at a fun waffle place, we hiked ensign peak. What a beautiful view!

Afterward, we went to Bob's to get snow cones. My dad was really nice and let Lucy loose playing with his straw. I thought that she was having fun moving the ice around until I saw her face light up with pleasure. Lucky for her she figured out how to really use the straw. Getting her away was quite the challenge. I had to pry her little fingers off that straw.

Now for the real highlight of the trip...Darin and Cathy got married! We were so glad that we were able to be there. It was a perfect day! They made such a cute couple!

We took a couple of family pictures too while there since we were already dressed up.

Lucy again loved the grass.

I now officially miss Utah after putting this post together. Guess I'll have to start my count down to Christmas already.
